Even my shoes are neat and polished to a fine onyx black. I barely notice when we finally go under the English Channel. In this case, anticipation is almost more enjoyable than the moment itself. The loudspeaker comes to life, announcing our impending arrival at Gare du Nord. My mind is still going from one feeling to another, but I focus on our last days together in Canada. We both celebrated with Sprinkles cupcakes and a visit to Niagara Falls, barely catching the bus back to Toronto.
As cold as we were, it was nice to be with someone special so close to the holidays not to mention escaping a rather conservative family for a few days. Jumping from city to city, country to country, has always been a part of my life as a vagabond, and I often romanticized about finding someone with whom I could share these experiences. Or does being in such a conservative country kind of repress this side of them a little bit? Like I said before, Im not worried about stares or gazes, but safety.
What would be the typical reaction to say a gay couple holding hands or kissing in public? This one is a little tricky for me.

North Korea North Korea launches Choco Pie counter-strike Pyongyang produces its own version of South Korean snack to stem black market sales and curb parallel currency in marshmallow biscuits The chocolate-coated biscuit and marshmallow snacks are made by Orion Confectionery in South Korea By Julian Ryall, Tokyo 4: Now it has turned to chocolate biscuits. The hermit state has begun pirating Choco Pies, a popular South Korean-made snack – think a cross between a marshmallow tea cake and a Wagon Wheel – that has long served as a parallel currency in one of its main industrial regions.

Luxury cars, high-end alcohol and cigarettes and expensive household goods are still flowing over the border from China, in spite of international sanctions imposed in the wake of Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons tests and repeated rocket launches.

Click to print Opens in new window You might think that the gayest moment of my life would have been going to Pride in New York City or watching the L Word with a bunch of rugby players, but actually it was the night I stepped out of an elevator on the top floor of a nondescript building in Seoul, South Korea, and emerged into a sea of lesbians. It was my first week in Seoul, where I had moved to teach English at an elementary school, and mostly what I was conscious of before getting out of that elevator was how jet-lagged I was and how the entire city seemed to consist of an undifferentiated mass of neon.
As I became more familiar with Korea and with the language over the next two years, this veneer of seemingly perfect straightness gained more nuance as I learned to spot the cracks. I had engineered a magical disappearing gayness act so convincing that not even I noticed the sleight of hand. Earlier that day I had met up with a group of queer expat women I found through Facebook, and after a barbeque and karaoke we made our way to Labrys, which is to say that we walked into an unmarked building that also housed a clothing store, squeezed eight people into an elevator meant for four that was vibrating with the bass blasting from the top floor, and were transported to Homo Heaven.
I have never seen so many lesbians in one place. As a group of ten non-Koreans, we were a bit of a spectacle.

But here it was, June in Georgia, and I was getting ready to move again. Things are so laid back in Georgia, future plans are… for the future. It was a good life for me. I mean, I knew where I was going immediately. I had plans to spend the summer in Poland, completing a teacher training course. But come September it would be time to relocate again and sign a new contract. There were two frontrunners — Oman and South Korea.
Which is why the snow pants were presenting a problem. If I ended up in South Korea, where winter temperatures rivaled those in Ukraine, my winter clothes justified the space they took up in my suitcase. So the snow pants remained on the shelf, unpacked, even as my last bit of time in Georgia evaporated.

Monday, July 14, Love I’ve been known to have had some success with girls when I was younger. It’s an euphemism, because I was actually a slut. I’ve always had mirrors available so I can’t pretend that I’m extremely handsome. But, as you know, some people use their brains for science, others use it to make money, I used it to get laid. Of course I’m not an ogre and girls would often say I was kinda cute or that I had something that attracted them to me.
I’m sorry if you’re ugly, but it’s easier to get women to sleep with you when you don’t look like a troll. Unless you have a lot of money, but that’s another story. Anyway, I’ve had several girls in my life before I go any further, I’ve been always faithful to my wife and I’m quite sure I won’t sleep with anybody else for the rest of my life , some were one night stands and I don’t even remember their names, others I’ve dated casually and others I’ve dated for a long time.
Some of them even lasted long enough for me to refer to them as girlfriends. The point of this post is that – not counting my wife – I’ve been in love only four times I know some may think four is a big number but give me a break, I started at a young age and all of them were with Korean girls. I’ve liked or had some long relationships with non-Korean girls before, but real love, only with Korean girls.
